Created by Animate films, ‘Our Girl’ is a three minute film aimed at getting communities talking and acting towards putting a stop to forced marriage. The film is part animated and it features several filmed scenarios, all based on true cases of forced marriage.
Forced Marriage transcends more than one culture and is prevalent all over the world including in the UK. The film helps raise public awareness with the clear message that forcing someone to marry is a breach of basic human rights and is now a criminal offence in the UK. Accompanying ‘Our Girl’ is ‘True Stories’ a six minute film with extended dramatised interviews based real testimonies from Forced Marriage victims.

Peer Productions and True Honour worked with 10 partner secondary schools on this project. Each school received:
- A one-day drama workshop designed by Peer Productions' Artistic Director, Nina Lemon for 30 of their students (target age: Years 9 and 10) in which pupils worked with Peer Productions’ actors to explore issues surrounding forced marriage in the broader context of healthy relationships, staying safe and gender based violence.
- Those 30 students then presented the Our Girl animation together with a short performance to an assembly of their peers.
- A comprehensive and detailed teachers’ pack with copies of the Our Girl film for use in assemblies and PSHE lessons.
- An INSET training designed by Sarb Athwal - founder of True Honour.
FREE - This project was funded, and schools taking part did not incur any costs.
