This part of the website has been written by PEP artists Bella and Alex.

‘The Story of Us’ is a new project funded by Arts Council England. One of our fellow PEP learners Annabel came up with the idea of ‘The Story of Us’ and our Artistic Director Nina thought it was a really good idea so we applied for funding and started researching and developing a new piece of theatre all about what it is like to be a young adult with a learning disability.

We believe that people with disabilities need to be heard.
We are not children and we have the right to be adults.
We know that people with disabilities can be professional like the actors in ‘Ralph and Katie’ so we want people to stop underestimating us.
We want to perform this to show decision makers including politicians, managers, social workers, carers, medical professionals and even our own families how to best support us to be the awesome independent adults that we can be.
This is our right and we are using our theatre-making skills to tell our story so that people like us can be heard!

During this project we have worked with different artists. We both really enjoyed it and found new ways to express how we feel so our voices can be heard. The artists taught us how to be free as disabled performers, puppeteering, editing and multi-media and how to be serious and silly at the same time. We are now using these new skills to devise ‘The Story of Us.’

Watch this space for information about our exciting up-and-coming performances, or get in touch if you'd like to learn more.

We are pleased to be working with the Phoenix Cultural Centre to perform ‘The Story of Us’ at the Fiery Bird in central Woking.

The performances will take place in the week commencing 18th March 2024. Times to be confirmed.
