holiday projects

Peer is a theatre charity and we are dedicated to providing holiday drama activities for young people aged 8 to 16. We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their skills, regardless of their background or ability. That is why we have partnered with Active Surrey Club4 to provide free activities specifically tailored to young people in receipt of free school meals who are eligible to access the programme for free as are other Surrey young people who are considered vulnerable. This includes all Surrey young people who have an EHCP (Education, Health, Care Plan.)

Our holiday programme is designed to be fun, engaging, and inclusive. We offer a range of drama activities, from improvisation and scriptwriting to acting, directing and designing. Our experienced and friendly staff are passionate about helping young people to discover their talents and build their confidence.

We are particularly proud of our programme for learning disabled young people. We understand that traditional drama activities may not always be accessible to everyone, which is why we have developed a tailored program that is specifically designed to meet the needs of young people with learning disabilities. Our staff are trained to provide the support and guidance that these young people need to fully participate and enjoy the activities.

We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all young people who participate in our programmes. We have strict safeguarding policies in place and all of our staff are DBS checked.

Every young person was supported to take part in a way that was right for them. For some it was being the shining star, confidently stepping into the spotlight and showcasing their talents, enjoying their moment centre stage, for others it was standing alongside a member of staff who gave them the extra security to step into the middle, for some it was standing on the side and delivering their lines from there, the audience enjoyed and celebrated every young person’s contribution and the young people supported and celebrated each others. Whether that was a hand hold, a smile, holding space while nerves were conquered, a fist pump or a whispered prompt. It was a moving thing to watch, beyond the talent and the creativity, beyond the pride in themselves there was pride in each other and unwavering support for each other as clearly modelled by all the staff.

Thank you and your team for this opportunity for my daughter in the first week of the Christmas holidays. She has never had the chance to do anything like this in such an inclusive way. Moreover, since she has been at her fantastic school we have really struggled when she has days of endless holiday, perhaps a challenge that is not perceived so much to the neurotypical community so having a focus for a few days and a show at the end of the day was amazing.

She really struggles through the holidays but these 4 days were incredible, she felt included, accepted and free to be herself.

I’d also like to congratulate you all on the warmth and friendliness of all the staff”
