Man up

Taking bookings now for Spring 2024.

Man Up is a play about being a boy and becoming a man for young people of all genders in year 9 and above from playwright Nina Lemon (Masking, Hidden, Losing It, The Forest in Between).

In light of growing evidence showing a notable increase in misogynistic attitudes among young people, we have developed this new play aimed at empowering and uplifting young men, as well as their communities and people of all genders who support them

“You would rather face a bear than a man and I am a man so what does that say about me?”

Man Up tells the story of childhood friends Lottie and Logan as they navigate growing up together and try to work out how to act and how to be in an increasingly confusing world where no one knows the rules any more.

Currently in development, the play will cover the following topics:

- How gender stereotypes and patriarchal values impact everyone of all genders.
- How social media algorithms work and how they can impact perceptions of specific genders.
- How echo chambers function and how they can impact the ways in which an individual sees themselves and the world.
- The importance of critically questioning online information to develop a balanced sense of perception and perspective.
- The importance of supporting everyone’s mental health especially young men who may feel less able to ask for help.
- How sexual harassment negatively impacts people especially women and girls.
